Dental Exams and Cleanings in Salt Lake City

Dental Exams and Cleanings in Salt Lake City

Regular dental exams and cleanings are an important part of maintaining oral health. They give us a chance to monitor your teeth and gums over time, identify changes, and address problems before they become more complicated.

At Lakeside Dental, these visits are also an opportunity to talk about concerns and make recommendations based on your individual needs.

What Happens During a Dental Exam?

Dr. Keith Egan evaluates your teeth, gums, existing dental work, bite, and other areas of the mouth for signs of problems or changes.

  • Tooth decay
  • Cracked, worn, or damaged teeth
  • Gum and periodontal health
  • Existing fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, or other dental work
  • Grinding or clenching
  • Pain or sensitivity
  • Changes in the soft tissues of the mouth

Professional Dental Cleanings

A professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar that can accumulate even with good home care. Your hygienist also evaluates gum health and identifies areas that may need additional attention.

Dental X-Rays

Dental X-rays provide information about areas that cannot be fully evaluated visually. We use digital X-rays when appropriate based on dental history, symptoms, risk factors, and the information needed for care. Not every patient needs the same X-rays at every visit.

Checking Your Gum Health

We evaluate the gums and supporting tissues for signs of gingivitis or periodontal disease. When more advanced disease is present, a routine cleaning may not be the appropriate treatment, and we may discuss scaling and root planing or periodontal maintenance.

How Often Should I Come In?

There isn't one schedule that is right for every patient. Many people benefit from preventive visits about every six months, while patients with periodontal disease or other risk factors may need a different interval. We'll recommend a schedule based on your oral health.

Your First Visit

If you're new to Lakeside Dental, we'll review your dental and health history, talk about concerns or goals, complete appropriate examination and diagnostic records, and discuss what we find. If treatment is recommended, our goal is to make sure you understand the problem and your options before deciding how to proceed.
